The Cincinnati Bengals and Reds have spent more money on free agents over the 2019-2020 offseasons than ever before. I can’t quite wrap my head around it all. As a fan of these two teams, I have come to expect nothing and keep my hopes low. They haven’t given me much reason to expect a championship or even much postseason play.
In my lifetime, the Bengals have never won a playoff game and the Reds have never won a postseason series. This isn’t a ‘woe-is-me’, martyr piece; instead, it is an evaluation of the teams’ current situations and an attempt to answer the age-old question: Is my favorite team good, or am I just irrationally excited because I haven’t seen them play in a few months?
